About Calvin
Hi, my name is Calvin Taylor and I am a strength coach and Certified Personal Trainer accreditted by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
I was born and raised in Inglewood but spent a good amount of time in Las Vegas, Nevada. I graduated from UNLV as a Criminal Justice major but my real passion was Kinesiology and enhancing strength and performance.
When I started my workout journey my sophomore year at Basic High School I was 5’6” and weighed 120 pounds. I was the one that got bullied and the weakest guy on my football team. My sophomore year my max was 65 pounds which is the bar and 10’s on each side. I got teased all the time for how weak I was. I told myself I would reach 225 and everyone laughed at me.
The next summer in 2005, I declared I would focus on weight lifting and eat more. That fall coming back to school in my Junior year I was repping 225 for 5 reps at 175 pounds. I continued to gain confidence on training and nutrition and in my junior year my max bench climbed to 315 at the age of 16.
My advice to everyone is that you have to start somewhere. If you like lifting I can help you with a strategic individualized program to reach your goals too. I never thought that I would get to a 400 pound bench after I hit 315. By the age of 26 I was maxing out at 500 with proper discipline, diet, and linear periodization.
Today, I enjoy sharing my techniques and helping people reach their fitness and strength goals. I live in Topanga Canyon with my wife Adriana who runs La Chingona Tacos, and during the week I work at the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley.
